ST. BASIL’S CAPUCHIN ASHRAM, MUNDUKOTTACKAL (2007 - Pathanamthitta Diocese) Ever since we began our ministry half a century ago in the Syro- Malankara Church, our Province occasionally admitted to our Order candidates from that community. Since we felt that these candidates should be given formation respecting their liturgical tradition and customs, the idea of starting a minor seminary for the aspirants from the Syro-Malankara Church came up. The idea was appreciated by the Major Archbishop of Syro-Malankara Church and with his permission and blessing, Br. Jacob Chamakalayil, the provincial, with the help of Br. Joseph Keeprath bought a plot of land in Mundukottackal, near Pathanamthitta, within the jurisdiction of Trivandrum Archdiocese. Br. George Puthenpurackal and Br. Martin Mannath were assigned to the new task and they received special training in Syro-Malankara liturgy and customs as they began their pastoral service in 2007. Under the able leadership of Br. George Puthenpurackal and assisted by Br. Jovinus Kazhuthuveetil the St. Basil Ashram was constructed. The Ashram was blessed by Moran Mor Basilios Cleemis, the Major Archbishop of Syro-Malankara Church, on March 26, 2008.
