Byrnihat, a cosmopolitan area, where various tribal and non-tribal people live together, is the industiral area of Meghalaya State. His Grace Tarcisius Resto Phanrang invited the Capuchins to serve in the Arch Diocese of Shillong in 1998. On 2 May 1999, the Parish was erected. Br. Sebastian Manyanickal was appointed as the first Parish Priest and Br. Renny Velayapillil as the assistant. The Friary was blessed on 7^th October 2007, and the new parish church on 2^nd Decemeber 2012, by His Grace Dominic Jala, Arch Bishop of Shillong.
